The Violence Prevention Partnership has a small central team, hosted within the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner.
On behalf of the Police & Crime Commissioner, we oversee compliance by partners with their responsibilities under the Serious Violence Duty. Through our leadership of the partnership model, we provide coordination and support – including the distribution of grant funding – to our local partners, as we seek to drive whole-system change and a focus on prevention.
In previous years (up to 31 March 2025) our VPP team utilised our grant to centrally commission a number of new interventions, funding specific programmes in line with government grant conditions.
We designed these interventions in a way that we could run robust evaluations of them to test what works and to use that information to inform our future approaches and that of our local partners. This led to a number of evaluation reports being published, known as the “What Works” series.
For the year ahead, 2025/2026, we have a smaller programme of work – prioritising instead the support to our local partnerships as they establish local Prevention Partnerships, through which they will manage the support and intervention initiatives for their local populations.
We also work with local partners in response to training needs, providing sustainable products and approaches.
